TESTIMONIALS

North Star Counseling has been a Godsend for me and my husband. Our therapist keeps God a part of the therapy, as we requested. We like this. We had been struggling to keep our marriage intact, so I actually filed for divorce. Since finding North Star, we have renewed our commitment to stay together. Through a series of counseling sessions, North Star therapy has guided us to realize that our marriage is worth saving, and we are happy about this. Counseling sessions are not just having a sit-down conversation of rants: Graphic teaching takes place in order for visual learners to see how the family is affected by divorce. Information is given on paper to help couples realize where they fall on a continuum that landed them in what they think may be an unsalvageable marriage. But our therapist is a great listener with great strategies and skills that helped us build our marriage starting with a rock solid foundation of marriage principles. Furthermore, a marriage counseling book was recommended, and we have read this book from cover to cover while practicing the author’s advice. Rereading the book and continual practice of what the book suggests we do is ongoing and has helped strengthen our marriage even more. North Star does more than counseling. I had a few sensitive issues that I needed to reveal to my husband. Our therapist was instrumental in guiding me on how to accomplish this goal so my husband would be able to handle this information with as little pain and confusion as possible. These moments were very successful!

Outside the beautiful landscape of Crape Myrtle trees and greenery is a prelude to the pleasantness inside: Flowers, wall hangings, nice, low music, and warm staff greets you as you enter. And don’t worry about having to wait beyond your appointment time. The staff here is very timely.

Our only regret about North Star is that we didn’t discover it twenty-seven years ago.

I came to North Star Counseling a year ago to get help with my family. I started with individual counseling and quickly realized that we needed more help than for just me. My husband was reluctant to go to counseling, as was our older son. But our younger son agreed to see one of the male therapists. The 2 of us, each with our own therapist, found some relief from depression, and my son stopped having panic attacks. When our older son saw the benefits for us, he started therapy with a 3rd therapist and has been loving the help ever since. I occasionally meet with one or the other son and his therapist when I’m invited. Now my older son is talking about wanting the whole family to do a few sessions together and we are exploring which of the 4 therapists would be best for the job. We still have not talked my husband into counseling, but he is showing signs of coming around as he sees the benefits of counseling in the rest of the family. I’m so thankful for the counseling team at North Star.

I’m fortunate to have found North Star Counseling in Clovis. I am a medical provider in Merced. Five years ago I moved out of the home due to severe problems in our marriage, and I feared the worst for our family of 5. But I was unwilling to go the divorce route and break up the family. I determined to find a suitable marriage counselor. We know many providers in the Merced helping professions, but we wanted an experienced therapist outside my referral base for our personal help. We received a referral to a North Star therapist from our Blue Cross insurance plan.

We were delighted with the care we got from our therapist, who always conducted the sessions in a professional manner. After 3 months I moved back home, and after 9 months we were only making trips to Clovis every 4-6 weeks. We successfully completed counseling after a year. We have been happy together since then, and have always said it was well worth the drive to Clovis. In fact, we have been back for “tune ups” twice in the last 3 years. We still appreciate the relationship with our therapist at North Star Counseling, and that he is willing to work us back in for follow-up help as needed.
